I am a visual artist working and living in Greenville, S.C. My current work explores the effects living in a digital world can have on our state of mind, and how our connection to nature can bring us back to life, rejuvenating and revitalizing our inner selves.
My connections to art started at a young age, admiring the gestural brushstrokes of early impressionists and color palettes of Fauvist artists. Along the way I have found my own rhythm which has become an outlet to express love, melancholy, grief, and deep connections in my life.
For a number of years, painting took a back burner to my career as an award winning photographic retoucher and digital artist. Being in the digital realm has sharpened my skills as an artist, but I’ve been longing for the brush again as a way back to the analog world.
My latest work has taken on a life of its own, traversing between figurative and non-figurative relationships. A close viewing of nature can transform into a rhythmic flattening of fluid lines and modeled shapes of vibrant colors that beckon me to forget the backlit digital world to which we are forced to connect daily. Combining this relationship with nature and my personal surroundings has resulted in interpretations which a viewer can immerse themselves as an escape, or perhaps a confrontation with their own selves that may arise from interacting with the colors and lines before them.
